The Holland Press

A lighthouse above unruly waves at dusk
The Holland Press

A lighthouse for books still becoming.

Some works here are finished and set. Most are still becoming — published in episodes, in text and audio, while the writing continues toward its goal. A finished book is forever. A becoming book is alive.

The Press

The Holland Press is the publishing home of Victor Holland of Bryant, Arkansas — and a lighthouse for writers weary of the conventional road.

A harbor holds more than one vessel. Finished works and works in progress sail side by side here — novels, short stories, screenplays. Carbonari is the flagship. The armada is growing.

The Fleet

Carbonari

Flagship · Northern Italy · 1858–59 · A novel in progress

A farmer’s wife in occupied Lombardy, and a girlhood training that begins to wake. Published in episodes while it is still being written — read or listen on its own page.

Short Stories

Short fiction in the fleet

Short stories by Victor Holland, starting with Our Man Jack — Mutiny in a Limousine — and open to other writers with a finished story.

Screenplays

Scripts performed in audio · First entry live

Screenplays from The Holland Press, performed in audio and printed here to read. First up: The Fifth Place — four old powers at a café table, and a fifth place laid.

The Workshop

For books still becoming, readers are more than an audience. Through the Workshop they offer characters, complications, and historical detail, and the Contributors’ Ledger records the ideas that make it into the book. The author keeps the pen.

Readers can influence the journey without being promised control of the destination.

For Authors

If you have a book — finished, or far enough along that its shape is real — and no wish to walk the conventional road, there may be a place for it here. The Press brings the format and the machinery; you bring the book and your own readers. Episodes let a book keep becoming instead of waiting until it is done.

For Authors

Follow the story as it is written

New episodes, in text and audio, plus occasional notes from the Author’s Desk. No noise — the story, when there is story.
